**The following reports are supposed to be for ALL officers within Post 40. AMVETS, The Sons, The Ladies, & The Riders. PLEASE send in reports by October 17th so that members may know what is going on and might be able to participate***
Membership is holding its own. Renewals are slow, but we are getting there. Adjutant’s doing a great job keeping up with membership and other duties. As membership well knows. It helps when our people go to Capitol Hill to lobby for our benefits. Just think about it. We are Veterans & our members count. If you know someone that has not renewed, please ask them to do so. And if you know of any veteran that is not a member, ask them to do so. If you have any questions, please call me at (540)982-8389 or c# (540)353-9117. I will be glad to be of assistance. Our adjutant, Michael Moore, may be reached at the post (540)982-8389. He would be glad to hear from you. Usually our post officers are at the post. They may also be glad to answer any questions or complaints you may have. Come by the post & check us out.
Our Post hospital rep, Jerry Ray, is still volunteering at Salem VAMC. 60 hours a month + mileage. Go by the volunteer office at 143 front entrance or right side as soon as you go into the entrance (the old my healthy vet office) & say hello to him & all the volunteers there. As I know after volunteering for 2 years at the Salem VAMC, they are dedicated to helping veterans as I am, & everyone counts. Our past commander, Gene, has been under the weather. Drop him a call and tell him you are thinking about him (540)556-9893 or post (540)982-8389. He is doing ok at present, but would still like to hear from you.
October 3rd, the Southeast Rec. Club will hold a car wash starting at 10am at AMVETS Post 40. Hot dogs & popcorn. Come out & support the young rec club. They are trying to raise money for a new club building. Donations are appreciated.
Be smart and innovative when dealing with friends and relatives. A last minute change some one makes will leave you feeling betrayed. Take a step back , consider what you can do to compensate and go about your business & avoid health risk. Sept. 3, 1776: The second Continental Congress made the term “United States” official, replacing “United Colonies”.

Post 40 Commander
Still no visitation on the wards. Especially, 2-2 and 2-3 due to the COVID-19 virus. Flu shots are given out at your primary care clinics for right now. No drive-thru flu shots as of now. Still have to wear the masks inside the hospital.
Post Rep. to the Salem VA
Sons of AMVETS
Time to renew membership. Please go out and recruit new members. New key cards are available when you renew.
Our Ladies Auxiliary continues our work as best we can in our current Coronavirus conditions. We still collect newspapers for Angels and the SPCA. We still send cantops to Ronald McDonald House. We send donations to school and the Vetersan Hospital and Care Center. We held a yard sale this past Saturday and made several hundred dollars to use for our ongoing commitment to our Veterans and neighbors. Thank you to all who came out and volunteered for the yard sale. A big shout out to Bonnie Thacker who came out early to open the door and get things going, cooked the hotdogs and hamburgers and made sure everything ran smoothly. Thank you Bonnie. We had plenty of baked goods with the leftovers donated to the Rescue Mission. The crazy paint lady donated some artwork that was a big hit with the shoppers. I hope those that had a table made a few bucks. Our next adventure will be
Trunk or Treat on Halloween night. Hope to see a lot of spooky participation. All are welcome. This is a true AMVETS function with Veterans Ladies, Sons and Riders participating. Don't miss out on the fun. Our next meeting will be on October 13th at 6:30. Hope to see you there.

We have been blessed with some beautiful days and able to go on some fun rides. Some had to be canceled or postponed due to weather etc.. we look forward to updates on these.
The kitchen continues on Friday night. A huge thank you to Dan, Mark, Mark and Cindy for cooking. Jackie for always jumping in when needed and all who come down and enjoy the food. We do appreciate all who come out.
We hope to get in some more rides so please share info if you hear of a ride or benefit. Toys for Tots will be coming up in December. We will have to make a new breakfast spot now that Country Cooking has closed. (So sad).
Our meetings are the 4th Sunday of each month at 1 p.m. please come out and be a part of the planning and growing process.
Thank you for all you do!
Congratulations to Dan and Tammy on your Harley. Another beautiful bike in our group.
